Frontière Natural Meats now offers Hold the Beef, a new plant-based product line that provides an alternative to traditional meat products. It's available as a choice for non-meat eaters or those of us who want to limit our meat intake.
This recipe is ideal for "Meatless Monday" because it's quick, tasty, and, obviously, meatless. We took our Hold the Beef plant-based ground — made with soy protein and spices like onion powder, garlic powder, celery seeds, and black pepper — and transformed it into an easy taco dish with tasty toppings and plenty of room to personalize. This is a good choice for a taco bar gathering, too, where you could offer a traditional beef taco as well as this meatless version to satisfy different dietary preferences.
For this recipe, simply follow the instructions on the pack of Hold the Beef plant-based ground. When you get to the step of breaking up the protein in the pan, add the taco seasoning. We like to make our own, but you can certainly use a packet of your favorite seasoning mix from the store. Then, prepare food-to-mouth vehicle — aka, a tortilla — and all your favorite toppings.

Vegan Street Tacos from Frontière Natural Meats
Makes about 4 servings
1 lb Hold the Beef plant-based ground
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp taco seasoning (see recipe below)
8 tortillas, street taco size
1 small red onion, finely diced
Crumbed Cotija cheese (or vegan cheese)
Sour cream (or vegan sour cream)
(We use this recipe.)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp olive oil. Press the plant-based ground flat into the pan and cook for 2 minutes. Break up grind with a wooden spoon or spatula, then add the taco seasoning and stir to combine. Cook for another 1-1/2 minutes.
To assemble your tacos, portion out the plant-based ground atop the tortillas. Spoon on the diced onion, cheese and sour cream. Be sure to add squeeze of lime, and add a dash of hot sauce if you like!
